This is a story about a horse named Grandma.
Two months ago a lady called me up and was crying,
she stated that she gave her horse away 3 years ago. She
gave this horse to a friend and he is now involved with
drugs
mainly Crack. She said she went to see her long lost
friend and to her amazement this horse is in BIG trouble!
That was an understatement, this horse was almost
dead. Well, anyway, she asked if it would be possible to
use my trailer to bring her to me. I will never turn a horse
in-need away. She picked up my trailer
to get her horse way from the abusive situation. When
she arrived at our stables and we opened the trailer door, the
poor
horse fell right out. The fly's covered her whole body and we
started to spray her down with fly spray. I thought I was going to
get
sick! The maggots started to come out of her flesh. She was so skinny
that her flesh just covered her bones. Her leges were so large
from the
Infection she had. We ran and got her feed, water, wormer, penicillin
and then started the process of wash her legs. The stench
was so bad, that I
had to walk away. A young women named Amanda took
the initiative and started the process of getting the dead flesh
off her
rotting legs. She doctored this horse for hours. She finally washed
the
rotting flesh away,
and let her rest the entire night. I have a very special pit
bull
that slept by her side all night long. The dog is named Sadie
and
she totally cleaned the her leg. I got up every hour on the hour to
see if she was ok. My dog never left her side. Well, anyway.
when Grandma got stronger, I took her to the vet and he said
I was doing everything right and to keep doing what I was doing.
She has now gained 200 lb. and she is looking so much better.
Each week I am going to post more pictures of Grandma so
everyone can see how this 30 year old mare has progress. I am
so
blessed to have her in my life. She can live the rest
of her life happy.
That is the biggest gift I could ever receive!
